Hampstead Reimagined Arts and Craft Home

This project was a full renovation for clients who, after living in the house for over 15 years, felt it was time to give it a new lease of life. We approached the renovation carefully, balancing the heritage of this Grade II listed Arts and Crafts house with our clients’ vision for an uncluttered, inviting and luxury interior, whilst injecting our classic contemporary signature style.

Designed for a South African family with a strong eye for design, the scheme was also shaped around a carefully curated art collection, including Chagall lithographs and a number of significant collector’s pieces. A planning application was submitted for the addition of a skylight in the TV room, a full reconfiguration of the kitchen which involved removing a pantry cupboard to expose an additional beautiful window, and the introduction of a powder room on the ground floor.

We worked with a number of the existing architectural elements, retaining the original timber flooring, but almost everything else is new. The renovation included new bathrooms throughout, where we used a beautiful tadelakt finish on the walls, which proved particularly practical as it could seamlessly run across the shower walls and the complex ceiling shapes on the first floor. The project also included a new kitchen, a full joinery package and FF&E throughout.

The marble selection was particularly exciting here, curating a variety of stones ranging from dramatic marbles in the powder rooms and fireplaces, to green Calacatta in the kitchen, and quieter, softer stones in the bathrooms to create a more sanctuary-like feel. One of the focal points of the project is the new bar unit in the living room, an exceptional wall-to-wall piece designed to anchor the space and create the perfect setting for entertaining. Luxurious stones, reflective materials and touches of brass create an elevated yet timeless feel.

Green being the clients’ favourite colour, an array of green hues subtly runs throughout the project. The primary bedroom is perhaps the calmest retreat, featuring very soft sage tones and tactile mohair velvets across the armchairs and soft furnishings.
